Our charging and courtesy meal policies are in place to ensure no student goes without a balanced meal, regardless of their account balance or payment status. This initiative allows members of the community to contribute funds to help end the shame of not having money to pay for a meal or worse, having a meal taken away.
School City of Hobart’s Department of Food Services are committed to providing nutritious, appetizing meal that promote health, well-being and learning. Equity and food access are important district values, and being able to provide fresh, healthy and nutritious meals to students all through our community is our focus.
How You Can Help
School City of Hobart’s cafes serve over 3,000 meals per day. As many as 50 meals per day are courtesy meals, which equates to a cost of over $22,050 each year that is covered by the District Food Service Department. This campaign allows individuals to contribute funds to help cover these costs and help to eliminate the shame of not having money to purchase a meal.
How the Process Works
All students are permitted to charge up to $20.00 if they do not have funds in their meal account. In the event the a student reaches this maximum charge limit the donation fund will feed this hungry student so they are not shamed nor turned away. Parents will receive a phone call from the school each time a student is served a "courtesy meal".
We closely monitor all donations ensuring that 100% of the money is channeled to providing children with daily meals at school.
